When the practitioner is completely done and has no more need for the magic circle, they must then pay their respect to whatever deities they invitedĪnd thank the elements. That’s because the third eye is believed to connect people to their intuition, giving them the ability to communicate with the world, or helping them to receive messages from the past and the future. For example if the caster’s intention is to reach a higher level of consciousness they might cast a magic circle with the ajna (also known as the third eye charka) symbol in the center of it to help them do so. The circle is typically nine feet in diameter, though the size can vary depending on the purpose of the circle, and the preference of the caster. It can also be drawn as a permanent medium – like paper, parchment or cloth – or more temporarily: either scrawled on soft ground, or drawn with something like salt, paint or chalk. To cast a magic circle it is first drawn with an athame (double-edged knife, dagger or even a sword) or other tools such as a staff, wand or whatnot and begin in a clockwise fashion. Circles can also be cast for protection, for example, to ward off psychic attack or protect a home against negative energies, evil forces, and spirits or use as a protective barrier between the practitioner and what they summon. It offers a boundary for a reservoir of concentrated power and acts as a doorway to the other world (which is also perfect for meditation).
